The ponds were great. You did a good job finding that good looking water. It sounds like you did everything right.
The problem isn’t you, it’s the redfish. For one there’s just not that many of them, and I am 99.99% certain that exact pond gets raked over by bow fishing outfits. I’ve seen them pull into other ponds into the vicinity, I could not imagine why they would spare that one.
You also described a fishing trip I had to the River a couple years ago where I found all kinds of gorgeous ponds full of everything but redfish.
Hmmmm…what exclusively targets redfish? It must be the porpoises!
Sarcasm aside, I’ve fished that pond before and it’s a great one and it has been loaded with redfish in years past.
Just keep doing what you’re doing. You will find the Mother Lode.
Brother, I love how the next trip you went to Port Sulphur, rather than going back to the same pond and scratching your head as to why you’re getting the same result. That kinda move right there is the difference between getting the same ol’ results and really growing as an angler.
I’d be interested to see what you can get into off of LA-23 down toward Venice. There’s gotta be some good grass there you can launch into.
