Okay, cool. A couple things. Let’s address this one first:
“I want to spend more time fishing than boat riding”
Yeah, no kidding. lol Me, too. While we’re at it, I would like all my scratch-off tickets to win money.
Unfortunately, there’s an amount of risk with gas station lotteries and fishing.
If you’re starting from scratch then that’s what you’re left with: managing that risk. The best way to do that is to use the process I teach: picking out spots based on the conditions and fishing them in a row, eliminating unproductive water to zero in on the Mother Lode.
Which brings me to my next point: The Process is the appropriate mindset to have.
When you have that, then you can start making progress. When you don’t, you are stuck with re-inventing the wheel each time you go fishing.
Take it from the guy who’s made it doing this for a living: the paragraph above is where it’s at. I can only show people the door. I can’t help them if they’re not willing to open it and walk through.
Moving on: all the areas you mentioned are worth trying, in my opinion. I would forego the Long Rocks because it’s a dismal community hole. Everybody and their mom will be there to pressure the fish to go somewhere else.
After that, you’re not really starting from scratch. Brother, you’ve got access to the best fishing reports in Louisiana one can get. Show me where better ones are posted.
I don’t require anyone to post anything beyond a general area, and members in here are posting exact spots. I’d say folks here have painted a pretty clear picture where to concentrate your effort on Wednesday. Did you thumb through recent reports? What did you see?
Here’s what I would do, and I’m talking about me personally (so nobody get your feelings hurt): forget all the areas you listed.
They’re garbage.
Me, personally (IF the wind lays down), I would rather lay down on train tracks than spend all morning grinding throwbacks or do anything besides set the hook on trout that I need to measure because they’re too long. That is Louisiana summer fishing.
If it were me, I’d run deep into the Sound. I’m going to Little Central, 32 Block, Five Wells, Dope Boat, all the way to Central Rig and beating the daylights out of each spot with sonar and a jig.
Just run past the Long Rocks and generally head east and hit whatever sticks out above the water.
If the wind does NOT lay down, then I’d start in Mississippi Sound and work my way down the east edge of EBM, using islands as needed to stay in lee water. I’d find oyster reefs and artificial reefs in deeper water and fish those with a cork and jig.
And I would be unsatisfied with that, and would curse the wind for being wind, but would take what I could get.
