Someone got light-sabered. Nice.
Man, that lower unit is worth 20+ years of LAFB Elite. I’m just saying, when I’ve done what I teach, I don’t rip off lower units. Everytime I destroyed a lower unit was when I was free-navigating.
“I asked the guy for the location of where he hit it at and got no response.”
I absolutely fkn hate it when people do that. So then why is he telling everyone? Free man-therapy session?
I guess he was fishing a redfish tournament and went to Boudreaux and didn’t want to give away his spot.
Anyway, that looks like a 675? And he was only doing 45mph? Likely story.
If he was, then he hit something hard. Last time I saw that happen to a lower unit, a rock was the culprit. Wood doesn’t really do that. I bet he hit an old pipeline like what happened here.
Oh well, this is why we do our navigational homework. Which I see that you have.
I have more experience running the top of Boudreaux in the marsh there. There’s definitely pipelines and stumps up there. And I’ve ran some down where you are showing your homework. That was ten years ago, and based off what I remember, we were good so long as we looked for the obvious stuff on GED.
If someplace is that new to you and you have the heebie-jeebies that much, then go slow, monitor your sonar and establish those safe routes.
Sure, it can be tedious, but nowhere as tedious as buying a new lower unit. See above links if you’re curious how I know.
