Tell me more about this flatboat business.

2 years ago I bought a kayak to be able to just get out on the water. Never inshore fished a day in my life before.

Spent $3k on the kayak, a nice 13.5’ Old Town with a trolling motor…spot lock etc.

Paid another $1500 (registration and taxes included) for a new kayak trailer from Tractor Supply.

So at $5k I was out on the water puttering around in a 4mph top speed kayak.

I’ve had some good times in it, don’t get me wrong. And it’s NOT breaking down on me constantly. If it does I can paddle.

    But…

    – As far as “fishing spots”, it’s one and done. All or nothing.

    – I’ve still got all four kids at home, and I can’t really take them fishing with me.

    – it’s so heavy I often just launch at marinas rather than on the side of the road somewhere.

Question: If you had $5k to spend on an inshore fishing vessel, what would you buy?
