Having sonar technology will potentially eliminate wasting time fishing power lines without fish. That being said, there were numerous powerlines that I have fished that I did not use sonar and still ending up catching fish just because I got lazy graphing. You have to also look for other clues- baitfish? Clean water? Water movement??? I have caught black Drum, sheepshead, reds and trout all on artificial on those powerlines. South lines running east/west and the ones running north/south. Check wind conditions and water clarity.
Making sure you get good lure presentation is always key. I witnessed first hand yesterday a boat fishing a powerline or two before me, not fish it accordingly and not catch anything and move on, only to find out when I pull up and give every corner a try to get proper presentation and end up catching a few where he didn’t.
By no means the greatest box but not too shabby for being in your own backyard and spending only an hour or two fishing without having to run too far
