Hey, we’ve all been there. On both sides of the equation…sometimes they’re watching you catch, sometimes you’re watching them catch.

I know live bait has it’s place, and I’ll use it occasionally, but it’s pretty rare. Usually when I have a less experienced angler on board or I’m freelining for big trout during a rodeo or tournament. That said, jigging the bridges is a pretty technical style of fishing, and it takes practice. The bridges are the reason i finally picked up a baitcaster 8-10 years ago, and I haven’t looked back. One thing i used to do is cast into our neighborhood pool over and over and over…just practicing until it felt natural and i was getting the lure presentation that I wanted.

80% of the time, I’m throwing a 3/8 oz at the bridges, and i ALWAYS use a fluoro leader, usually 15lbs. I have seen on more than one occasion how much of a difference that fluoro can make, especially in cleaner water.

Keep after em, you’ll be slinging them in the boat in no time, no live bait necessary.
