“Are there any markers in Gentilly bayou or is it GPS track all the way?”
Some of the west shoreline of Bayou Gentilly has been dredged. The east shoreline, not really. You are going to want to GPS it, laying in a track exactly like in that video, especially on Saturday with all that northwest wind.
“You mention Oak River but I don’t know where Oak River or orange bayou are located?”
On GED, Oak River is actually called River aux Chenes. The English translation of that is “Oak River”. If you didn’t know, the French word for “oak” is “chene”. Hence, Pointe aux Chene, Bayou Chene, etc.
So, if you use that top left search box on GED and punched in “River aux Chenes” then it will take you to Oak River. It’s the big main bayou south of Grand Lake. You cannot mistake it for anything else. You can do the same for Orange Bayou, and you’ll see that it’s the bayou on the south end of Grand Lake leading into Oak River.
“Thanks guys I really appreciate the feedback this is my first adventure in the area and I know the water is going to be low.”
You’re welcome, and I think you’ll do great since you’re planning the trip rather than winging it.
