I agree. In my mind both are needed. Spot lock is awesome. Especially spot lock jog where you can hit a button and move 5ft in any direction. BUT…. sonar is a true must, where as the spot lock is more a luxury.
Marking coordinates/waypoints, seeing depths, and just have a sense of direction while out on the water is super important and safe. Also, when you download your tracks and look at the patterns that start showing up, it helps tremendously in seeing the big picture. I would go with sonar and yes….sidescan.
