I purchased a new truck in 2018, a 2017 f150 sport,2.7L eco boost, 2WD with locking differential. I have a 2020 nautic star 215xts with a F200.
The truck tows fine. The locking diff doesn’t make a big difference, in my opinion.Unless only half the ramp is slick. I got stuck in wet grass by vinots one time, like dew, not mud.
The 4Wd thing can be worked around. I.e if you launch in Delacroix use sweet water not serigne’s launch. (I launched there once and could not get back on the trailer)
What I’ve found to be more of an issue is long haul interstate driving. Truck tows fine, but you definitely know your towing… once the weight of the towed vehicle (ie boat) starts weighing more than the tow vehicle, you definitely can tell that your towing…
I want to buy an older f250/F350 to tow with. Making long trips to Florida /texas would be much less draining in a larger truck… but then I’d have another vehicle to insure and maintain… since I commute from the north shore to New Orleans, daily driving a f250 is NOT very economic.
On the same hand, don’t put too much faith in the EMPG ratings My truck showed like a combined 20ish mpg, I barely 16mpg, but I do have a heavy foot
Hope my reply of me rambling off thoughts helps .
