Another EBM report. Outstanding!
These areas are 40 to 50 miles one-way from my home in Eden Isle in Slidell
For summertime trout, that’s pretty standard for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. Fishing Breton Sound out of Hopedale/Shell Beach, you’re looking at a similar run.
but these turned out to be Spanish mackerel, acres of them
It’s good to see those coming back. They virtually disappeared during The Freshening. Let us know how the fillets turn out!
Man, if I were you, I’d get that trailer fixed. Last year’s trout run in Lake Pontchartrain wasn’t as good as other places. If that happens again then you’d be prepared to make the haul to greener pastures.
Also, the artificial reefs in Mississippi Sound (like Cabbage Reef, Grand Banks, etc.) could be worth your time.
This link at LDWF has more info (to include a PDF and KML).
Fishing them with a Heavy Drop Shot is a good choice, too.
Great report, thanks for posting!
