Sounds like rainwater and/or condensation was pooling on top of the tank and leaking in?
I hear you that non-ethanol gas can sit longer because it’s not used as much, but that’s not the case in Louisiana. We run boats here and lots of boats here (as you well know). Maybe West Virginia has lower demand, but not us.
A brand new mower going down in your front yard is one thing, but an outboard going down in Breton Sound is another.
