Kenneth, I’m glad you asked this and I’m more than happy to help you out.

Ultimately, what you want depends on your needs, so let’s identify those first.

What do you need the unit for besides navigation. Do you use sonar at all?

How do you manage your waypoints and tracks?

Answer those and we’ll go from there.

Now we’re cookin’ with gas.

I’d look hard at the Humminbird Helix series and Lowrance Elite Ti series. The screen size you choose will depend on what you want to spend.

Go play with them in the store and see which you like best.

Some other considerations: If you already have Lowrance power cords installed in your boat, then you will want to consider sticking with Lowrance.

Humminbird’s Louisiana Delta card is a lot cheaper than the Standard Mapping card, too.

i would like one that i could use sonar and navigation. more for the navigation but my goal is to be able to find my own fishing spots and not rely on other people to pit me on fish
