Gear ratios

Realizing that different reels are used in different situations, do you have a preferred gear ratio for your reels?

Hey Shane, that’s a great question and thanks for asking it.

For techniques like jigging, suspending baits and topwater I normally use a 8:1, because it’s good at quickly taking up slack.

I’ll use a slower gear ratio like a 6:1 for spinnerbaits, crankbaits, etc. because those baits usually require more cranking power and "blow out" if retrieved too fast.

A 7:1 is a good "all around" gear ratio to use.
